To make the accomplishment even more memorable. It happened on Senior Day.

The Jags got off to a slow start, which hasn’t been the case for the pat hand full of games. South was down 6 points 10-4 at the 13;29 mark of the 1st half. After a timeout where Coach Richie Riley challenged his team, they responded by going on a 15-0 run. South would continue to build on the lead getting it as high as 25 with 2;03 remaining in the half. That lead would stay nearly intact as the Jags led by 24 at halftime 44-20.

In the second half it was more of the same. South Alabama kept its foot on the gas. The lead would increase throughout the rest of the game. It would get as high as 39 with 1:37 left to play, before ending the game as a 36 point victory.

The Jags were led by…

Greg Paham II- who came off the bench and, played 25 minutes had 19 points and 1 rebound.

The Jaguars improved their record to 15-14 and 8-8 in the conference. South Alabama has won 4 in a row and 7 out of their last 8. The Jags have climbed in the standings and would now be the 7th seed in the tournament, if it was played today. They are getting hot at the right time.

Next up for Jaguar basketball

The Jags are on the road for the final two games of the regular season. The Jags travel to Texas St Wednesday at 7pm and then Lafayette on Friday to take on the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns. This game will be nationally televised on ESPN 2 at 8pm to close out the regular season schedule.

Jaguar Women’s basketball falter late versus Louisiana

The South Alabama Jaguar women’s basketball team played well for a half versus Louisiana. The third quarter was the difference in this game. The Jags were competing with the Ragin’ Cajuns for the first 2 quarters, actually taking a 4 point lead 18-14 at the 9:25 mark in the 2nd quarter. South Alabama would give the lead back to Louisiana 20-18 at the 6:25 mark and the Jags would end up trailing at halftime 29-26. The Jags shot 35% from the field and 17% behind the 3 point line, in the first half. (Including an 0-9 for 3’s in the 2nd quarter.) but still managed to keep it within 3 points at the half. South Alabama women’s basketball takes on Louisiana at the Mitch.

My logo

The South Alabama women’s basketball team has another tough task in front of it. The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns come to the Mitchell Center. They will play in the 1st game of a men’s and women’s double header Saturday February 11th. The Jags are now just trying to play for seeding.

The Jags could still, believe it or not, get to the middle seeds. They will have to win out and get a little bit of help. Even though it’s highly unlikely, South Alabama could get hot at the right time, and put a few more wins together and get to a 10-12 seed in the Sun Belt Conference tournament. Right now the Jags sit as the 14th seed which is good for last place in the conference.

Louisiana comes to Mobile with a 14-11 overall record and 8-5 in the SBC. The Ragin Cajuns are led by…

Tamera Johnson- 12.0 PPG and 7.3 RPG

Laney Wheaton- 11.7 PPG and 3.9 RPG

Louisiana is averaging 58.8 points per game. The Cajuns are shooting 37% from the floor and 26 % from behind the three point line. Louisiana is averaging 35.4 rebounds per game.

The South Alabama Jaguars are led by…

Kelsey Thompson- 9.5 PPG and 4.1 RPG

Kiana Anderson- 7.7 PPG and 5.6 RPG

Nadia Howard- 7.0 PPG and 3.7 RPG.

The Jags this season are averaging 55.5 points per game, and are shooting 33% overall. South Alabama is shooting 27% from behind the 3 point line while averaging 37.3 rebounds per game.

Like I stated earlier, the Jags have their work cut out for them, but the job is not impossible. The Jags have a 6-18 record overall and are only 2-11 in the Sun Belt with just 5 conference games remaining. After today the Jags will have 2 road games at Arkansas State and at Texas st. Also there will be two home games remaining vs Georgia Southern and finishing the regular season vs Troy.

South Alabama Men’s basketball to begin a big four game home stand

My logo

The South Alabama men’s basketball team begins an extremely important four game home stand, starting Saturday 5 pm at the Mitchell Center. There is still uncertainty with the Jags season as far as seeding and where they could end up. As of today the Jags are tied with Texas St. for 10th place in the Sunbelt Conference. While the chance of the winning the regular season championship are at zero percent. They can however play for better seeding for the upcoming conference tournament.

The Jags have a tough game to start the home stand. App State is currently sitting in a four way tie for 5th place. The Mountaineers have an overall record of 14-12 and 7-6 in the Sunbelt. App St is lead by…

Donovan Gregory- 11.9 PPG and 4.1 RPG

Tyree Boykin- 11.6 PPG and 2.8 RPG

Terence Harcum- 11.0 PPG and 2.4 RPG

The Mountaineers as a team are averaging 70.9 points per game and giving up 63.5 PPG. App St is averaging 36.4 rebounds per game and shooting 33.4% from the three point line.

South Alabama is lead by….

Isaiah Moore- 18.8 PPG and 3.4 RPG

Kevin Samuel- 10.4 PPG and 9.3 RPG

Tyrell “Turbo” Jones- 9.9 PPG and 3.3 RPG

The Jags are averaging 69.6 points per game. Interestingly enough the Jags are giving up 66.9 points per game. That means that the Jags are playing in a lot of very close games. They are shooting 45.4 % as a team, 33.0 rebounds per game and 32.2 % behind the three point line.

The Jags only have 6 game’s remaining, 4 home games, and only 5 games left in conference play. So every game from here on out, is very important leading up to conference play. Like I stated before this home stand will be difficult it includes a game vs Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles are in first place in the Sunbelt Conference. They close out the home schedule vs ULM.
