South Alabama Has a Dominate Performance Over Southern Miss

If you look up the word dominance in the dictionary, It says the definition is controlling power or influence over others. That is exactly what happened Thursday night at the Mitchell Center. The Jags exerted their dominance over Southern Miss winning by 31. The final 85-54. The 54 points scored were the lowest scored by Southern Miss this season.

South Alabama men’s basketball came into the night, not trailing in five of the past 6 games. Add one more game to that total after tonight. South struck first. Kevin Samuel got the opening tip and got the ball to Judah Brown who connected on a 3-pointer to give the Jags the lead at the 19:39 mark of the 1st half. South Alabama would not look back. South would steadily increase their lead to 15 at the half. 42-27.

The 2nd half was more of the same. The Jag lead would balloon to 34 with 18 seconds left in the game. The lead would drop to 31 after a 3 pointer to wrap up the scoring.

Southern Miss shot 40.4% for the game, and just 23.5% from 3 point range. The Golden Eagles record dropped to 23-5 on the year, and 12-3 in the Sun Belt Conference. Which is still good for first place in the conference. In an odd stat, all 5 of USM’s losses have come on the road.

The leading scorers for Southern Miss were…

Victor Hart- 10 points and 4 rebounds

Denijay Harris- 10 points and 2 rebounds

Austin Crowley- 9 points and 1 rebound

South Alabama shot 55.9% for the game and 40.6% from 3 point range. The Jags improved their record to 14-14 on the year and 7-8 in the conference. The Jaguars are now tied for the 9th seed in the conference tournament with Georgia Southern.
