Jaguar Basketball Falls Just Short In Sun Belt Conference Finals

Jaguar basketball falls just short in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament finals. The final score 71-66. The Jags played with a high amount energy and led for a good majority of the game. Isaiah Moore was lights out tonight. Owen White had a great look for the final shot of the game. White circle around a screen and stepped back from the 3 point line about 2 steps to create some space and received the pass. Owen fired off the three that looked like it was headed in, but instead it bounced around the rim and went out. Breaking the hearts of the players, the Jag fans in attendance and those watching at home.

The game started off the same way the past two games have. The Jags would come out scoring fast. South would lead 5-0 at the 18:26 mark of the first half. Louisiana would get it going offensively. Going on a 5-0 run getting the Jaguars lead down to two points, but the Jaguars would answer back with a run of their own. The Jaguars and the Ragin Cajuns would square off in an epic tournament battle. South would go up 6 points then Louisiana would come back getting ahead by 3 and the Jags would surge back in front. The Jaguars would lead 37-33 at halftime.

Isaiah Moore had 16 of the Jags 37 points at halftime.

The second half start off with more of the same. The Jags would increase the lead to 7 points, the score was 40-33 1:55 into the second half. Louisiana would get the lead again 47-46 with 12:36 left in the game. Fortunately the Jaguars would not fall behind by more than 6 for rest of the game. Unfortunately the Jags would never get the lead again. The Jags would scratch and claw and get the deficit to 1 point with 17 seconds left. Louisiana would push the lead to 3 points. That would set up South Alabama for the last shot with 13 seconds left. Owen White would inbound the ball to Isaiah Moore, who would work the ball down the court, and pass it to White for the three that fell just short. The Jaguars were forced to foul and that would wrap it up.

The Jaguars leading scorers were…

Isaiah Moore- 33 points and 1 rebound

Kevin Samuel- 12 points and 6 rebounds.

Tyrell “Turbo” Jones- 8 points and 10 rebounds.

Owen White was quiet tonight- 6 points and 4 rebounds.

Louisiana is a great team and should be given all of the credit. The Jaguars had their chances but they couldn’t capitalize on all of them.

South Alabama’s record falls to 19-16 overall. We will have to wait and see if the Jags get any kind of smaller post season tournament invites. Like the Basketball Classic from last year.
