South Alabama softball comes up short in the final day of the NFCA Leadoff Classic

South Alabama softball wrapped up the the NFCA Leadoff Classic viruses Indiana. The Jaguars would lose this one. The final 5-1.

Jenna Hardy would get the start for the Jags. Hardy would pitch a great game for 5 innings giving up 3 hits….

South Alabama would strike first in the bottom of the 5th. Victoria Ortiz would single on the 1st pitch of the inning. Ortiz then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Bailey Welch would bunt a foul out to the 3rd baseman. Mackenzie Brasher grounded out to the pitcher. Ortiz would advance to third on the play. Stephanie Gonzalez, who pinch hit for Marley Sims, doubled down to left field scoring Ortiz. The Jaguars led 1-0. Sims would renter the game a a pinch runner for Gonzalez. Sims would advance to third on a wild pitch. Indiana would change pitchers. Parker would exit the game. Montgomery would enter. Meredith Keel would walk to put runners on the corners. Sasha Willem would ground out to end the inning with the Jags up 1-0.

Unfortunately that’s all of the runs the Jaguars would get. In the top of the 6th inning. Indiana would 2 runs on a two run homer. Olivia Lackie would enter the game for Hardy. Lackie would give up a walk and 2 runs in the inning. Jags trailed 4-1. Indiana would add one more run in the top of the 7th. The Jaguars would go quietly in the bottom of the 7th. The final Jags lose 5-1.

Lackie would finish the game pitching 2 innings giving up 3 runs only 1 earned, on 3 hits and 1 walk.

After the first weekend of the season, South Alabama is 1-2 and will open up their home season this Saturday February 17th as they host the Mardi Gras Classic vs Missouri State at 12:30
