Jaguar baseball gets down early, and storms back late at Nicholls. This game started off like so many others have this season. That would be, the Jaguars getting behind early. Before todays game South Alabama was 2-14 when the opponent scored first, this season. The Jags would get down early in this one.
In the bottom of the first Nicholls would score two runs. South Alabama pitcher Tyler Smith only recorded one out and left the game. Smith gave up two runs on three hits. Leif Moore would come in and shut down the Colonel’s offense, Jags trailed 2-0 after one inning.
In the top of the third, Colson Lawrence walked to lead off the inning. After Diego Altamirano grounded out and Mitchell Heer popped out for the 2nd out of the inning. Erick Orbeta hit an rbi single to left. The Jags trailed 2-1. JG Bell would single to center, but Will Turner flied out to end the inning.
In the bottom of the 4th. Nicholls scored 4 runs. At the end of the inning, the Jaguars trailed 6-1.
In the top of the fifth, the Jaguars offense would get going. Heer would single to left but get thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. After an Orbeta strike out, Turner singled to right, scoring Bell on the play. The Jags trailed 6-2. Trey Lewis would come to the plate after a pitching change. Lewis hit an rbi double to left. Jags now trailed 6-3.
In the bottom of the sixth Nicholls scored two more runs. The Jags trailed 8-3.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Jags offense would get going again. After Lewis hit a single up the middle. Joseph Sullivan would follow Lewis with a double to left center. Cole Ketzner then reached on a fielders choice, bringing up Lawrence. Lawerence would then hit a three run home run to right field. Jags trailed 8-6.
In the top of the 8th inning, Orbeta and Bell both singled. After Turner flied out, Lewis walked to load the bases with one out. After a pitching change, Sullivan hit a 2 rbi single to right. The Jags tied the game at 8-8.
That score would hold. The game headed into extra innings. In the top of the 10th. Orbeta started the game at second base. Bell would hit a rbi single to left. Bell reached second on a fielding error. After a pitching change, Lewis would hit an rbi double to left center. The Jags led for the first time, 10-8. That score would be the final.
Grant Wood picked up the win, improving his record to 4-1 overall. The Jaguars improved their record to 10-15 overall.
