Jaguar baseball closes out the South Alabama Invitational with a win over Southern University, the final score 8-3.
The Jags finally got the offense going early. In the bottom of the 1st inning, Erick Orbeta would lead off the game and hit the first pitch to right center field for the triple. Colson Lawrence would walk on 4 pitches. That would bring Will Turner to the plate, with 2 on and nobody out. Turner would hit an RBI ground-rule double to right center. Jags lead 1-0. Joseph Sullivan strikes out, for the first out. JG Bell would come to the plate with two on and one out. Bell would hit an RBI single through the left side, Jags lead 2-0. Diego Altamirano would get the RBI reaching on a fielders choice. Jags now lead 3-0.
In the top of the 3rd Southern would get 3 runs to tie the game at 3-3.
In the bottom of the 4th After Ketzner flew out and DK Donaldson struck out. Hunter Donaldson would come to the plate and hit an inside the park home run. Jags lead 4-3. Orbeta would hit a single past second base, bringing Colson Lawerence to the plate. Lawerence would hit an RBI triple down the line in right. Jags lead 5-3. Turner would come to the plate with one on and two out. Turner would hit an RBI single up the middle. Jags lead 6-3. Sullvan would ground out to end the inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, Sullivan would walk to Leadoff the inning. JG Bell would come up to the plate. After Sullivan would advance to second on a wild pitch, Bell popped out to shortstop for out one. Altamirano would hit an RBI triple to left center bring up Cole Ketzner. On the 1-2 pitch Keltzner would hit an RBI single to center. Jags would lead 8-3.
That score would hold for the final. Sam Knowlton would get the win. He improved his record to 1-0. Knowlton came in to the game in the 6th inning. He pitched two innings giving up one hit and striking out two.
The Jaguars improve their record to 6-6 overall.
