Jaguar Baseball Scores Late And Wins

Jaguar baseball scores late and wins the first game of a three game series at Jacksonville State.

The game was a 0-0 battle until the top of the sixth inning.

Joseph Sullivan singled to center to lead off the inning. Will Turner would double to right. JG Bell would step up with two on and nobody out. Turner would ground out to shortstop, picking up the RBI. Jags lead 1-0. Robbie Petracci would foul out and Cole Ketzner would ground out for the third out of the inning.

In the top of the seventh, the Jaguars would get going again. After a Micah Morgan struck out, Austin Thrasher was hit by a pitch. Bringing to the plate Hunter Donaldson. Hunter would hit the first pitch he saw down the right field line for an RBI triple. Jags lead 2-0. Erick Orbeta would walk and then get thrown out trying to steal 2nd, and Sullivan struck out for the third out of the inning.

Jacksonville would get 1 run in the bottom of he seventh. The Jaguars still lead 2-1.

In the top of the eighth. Turner walked, Bell struck out, Petracci was hit by a pitch, and Ketzner would strike out for the second out. That would bring up Morgan with two on. Morgan would hit an RBI single, scoring Turner. Morgan would be thrown out at 2nd trying to advance on the play for the third out. South Alabama leads 3-1.

In the bottom of the 8th Jacksonville would pick up two runs, tying the game 3-3.

The Jaguar bats get busy again in the top of the ninth. Thrasher would walk to lead off the inning. After Donaldson reached on an error, Orbeta would lay down a bunt single to load the bases. Sullivan reach on a fielders choice. Thrasher was thrown out at home on the play. Turner would hit an RBI sac fly to right field. The Jags would retake the lead 4-3 with two outs. Bell would then hit an RBI single to right center, and Petracci would hit an RBI double.to give South a 6-3 lead. That score would hold to end the end of the game and become the final.

Jeremy Lee would get the start for the Jags, and have his best outing of the season so far. Lee didn’t get a decision, but did throw 6 shutout innings striking out 9. Grant Wood picked up his third win of the season. Wood went 2 innings giving up 1 hit and struck out 4. The Jaguars improved their record to 8-6 overall.

Next Up

Due to inclement weather predicted on Sunday. The Jags will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1pm
